CAPS grade ‘A’ solutions for Rankin ‘B’ project
The scale of Woodside Energy’s $5billion North Rankin B Platform requires complex and innovative solutions, which is why CAPS Australia will be entrusted to deliver custom-built equipment critical to the project.
CAPS are contracted to supply an air instrument package featuring three 160 kilowatt Aircooled rotary screw compressors built specifically to meet a required 30 year lifecycle, and will deliver something truly state of the art.
To handle the Northern Territory’s extreme conditions, oil and air coolers will be purpose-built in titanium, while the internal oil handling system will be duplex and super duplex stainless steels.
The entire enclosures, along with all filters and air dryers, will be made of 316 stainless steel.
The instrument air package features a centralised programmable logic controller (PLC) that will control all three compressors.
The PLC has a host of information gathering instruments and is designed with full redundancy and emergency power supplies to ensure minimal disruption, even in worst case scenarios.
CAPS will also design, fabricate and supply a special lifting beam as part of the design to allow safe and easy handling.
Because Rankin is stationed in one of the world’s most environmentally sensitive regions, all coolant, lubricant and drying media will be non-hazardous and ecofriendly.
CAPS is no stranger to the complexities of the project having supplied similar equipment for the Rankin A project.
CAPS has since worked closely with Woodside and, based on feedback from the energy giant’s policy of continuous improvement, is able to offer an even better package containing significant design enhancements.
The nation’s air compressor experts are proud to deliver equipment that will be Australian designed and built with the majority of parts sourced locally.
