CAPS gives Rugby League Club more power.
CAPS Australia has used its extensive expertise and experience to meet the specific power generation needs for the clubhouse of one of the most successful rugby league teams in the world, St George.
The St George Leagues Club located in Kogarah, NSW, recently underwent a $6.3m redevelopment that included an electrical infrastructure upgrade. Working alongside Haron Robson, the electrical consultant, CAPS was contracted to provide a power generation solution that ensured the electrical needs of the Club were met – particularly during a blackout.“We didn’t want to experience a situation where the Club is full of supporters after a game and a power failure occurs. The solution had to support 100% of the Club’s electrical load during a blackout and provide a seamless transfer when the mains power returned,” explained Mr Kim Finigan, the Club’s engineer.
The Club was also sensitive to the needs of its neighbours. Since the Generator Room is located close to nearby residences, a maximum noise level of only 45dBA at 15 metres was targeted.
“Potentially, noise from the Generator Room presented a major problem for us but CAPS’ design overcame this. They met our tight requirements despite the challenges associated with the difficult access and limited space available to them” added Kim.
To meet the Club’s requirements, CAPS installed a package which included an SDMO Model X1850 generator unit – comprising an MTU Model 12V4000 diesel engine and a Leroy Somer 1850kVA alternator. They also provided bulk fuel storage and transfer facilities, an exhaust system with primary and secondary silencers, and inlet and discharge air attenuators to achieve the required noise levels.CAPS’ broad range of power generators and extensive knowledge and experience in the design and construction of turn-key power systems, allow CAPS to tailor solutions to meet the specific needs of clients.
